KOP Rotary and “Public Relations”

Below is an excerpt from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).

What is Public Relations? PRSA's Widely Accepted Definition

“Public relations is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics.”

Simple and straightforward, this definition focuses on the basic concept of public relations — as a communication process, one that is strategic in nature and emphasizing “mutually beneficial relationships.”

KOP Rotary has stepped up its “public relations” effort in many ways to reach the community, both locally and on a broader scale to publicize who we are and what we do as a service organization. In today’s world, I suspect that the above definition encompasses a wide array of “attention getting” vehicles, our local press, electronic social media, networking, our District 7450 newsletter, KOP Rotary’s Krown Prints monthly newsletter, our club’s website and our Facebook Page.

We have been fortunate to have members whose skills in this area have been instrumental in getting our club’s activities before the public. Add to this the club’s much-publicized and successful fund raising events, our annual Taste of the Suburbs and Golf Outing events as well as other community outreach programs, our scholarship and scholastic literacy programs, interrelationships with the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company, our Upper Merion Police department, we are well recognized  within our demographic area. As an example of how we are progressing, below is an PR release from Renata Maslowski, our current PR chairperson: (Reformatted for this Rotary 101 Section)

Scott Palmer in a League of His Own at King of Prussia Rotary Club

Scott Palmer, Director of Public Affairs for the Philadelphia Phillies joins King of Prussia Rotary Club to share stories from a successful journey in sports, TV and public relations

PRLog (Press Release)Barbara McMullan, President of the King of Prussia Rotary Club is pleased to welcome guest speaker Scott Palmer, Director of Public Affairs for the Philadelphia Phillies.

“We learn so much from local personalities. Scott has had a great impact on our community and enhances our pride in Philadelphia culture.” – Barbara McMullan.

Scott Palmer shared stories and anecdotes from sports greats including Larry Anderson, Yogi Berra, Ozzy Virgil Jr., Marty Bystrom and Charles Barkley. He mentioned how much he and his wife enjoy being residents of Upper Merion Township and all the great economy development and activities in this area. Scott addressed questions from the audience and included his reflections that the success of the organization is due to the excellent leadership of David Montgomery, President of the Philadelphia Phillies and that the several young players will become standout players in the future of the team.

The King of Prussia Rotary Club welcomes guest speakers and guests from the community who are interested in its mission of service above self.

King of Prussia Rotary Club is an organization of business, professional and community leaders that encourages high ethical standards, and helps build goodwill and peace through local, national and international humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs. We meet weekly on Michael’s Deli on Town Center Road in King of Prussia.  We meet every Monday from 12:15 until 1:30 P.M.
